Homeschool

My friend sent me this today:

It may be a little true... and it made me laugh. And yes, I am a home-school mom, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it! I realize it's not for everyone, but for my family, it works marvelously! If you want to know why, feel free to keep reading. If you don't... then don't!  :)

PERKS OF HOMESCHOOL:

#1: I love being with my kids even more than before. Seriously. We get along WAY better. Things go more smoothly. I have gotten to know so much more about them while working with them in different contexts. I was terrified that homeschooling would mean I would just be butting-heads with my kids in more areas of life, but the EXACT OPPOSITE has happened and it TOTALLY ROCKS! I love feeling so much closer to them.

#2: Setting our own schedule. Ok, so this one may seem like it's not a big deal, but it definitely sweetens the pot! We get to sleep in a little later, go on field trips every week, AND take family vacations when it's NOT hot, crowded, and expensive... what's not to love??

#3: ...and setting our own pace. Child #1 is on pace with public school in Math and Science, but excels in Language Arts and History.... where else on this earth could we find a classroom that tailors her education so she can be exactly where she needs to be in each area?

#4: We learn what we love! It's great to see my kids getting excited about learning, and choosing their own topics to study within each subject. We work hard, and sometimes we have to work on things we wouldn't choose and don't love, but generally speaking we're all excited to learn and we're learning about the things that interest us. (P.S. I love learning alongside my kids).

#5: The social life is the bomb! For.real. Two or three homeschool groups a week, plus gobs of playtime with all-schoolers in the afternoons! We are fortunate to live in a very strong homeschooling community, so gymnastics, choir, swimming lessons, art, etc. can all fit into our daytime schedule, which means our afternoons are totally free for connecting with family and friends!

#6: The list goes on... but I must say, I am a firm believer that God has given us the children we need and the children who need us. I know homeschooling isn't for everyone and I believe each mother will know what is best for her own children. I also need to add that I ADORE those who choose to teach. They have more love than they can contain in their hearts and I'm so glad they choose to share it with others!! I love being that for my own children. Although I was reluctant to take the leap in homeschooling, I have to admit that it has actually been pretty amazing for us. I love teaching and learning with my kids, and I must say... I kinda like having them around! ;)
